Happy 2025! How exciting it is to begin a new year filled with endless potential! God has given us so many opportunities and gifts, but it’s up to us to chart a course and fulfill this potential.
What’s your vision for 2025? What dreams has God laid on your heart? If you know God the way we do, you know that He dreams BIG and wants you to do the same! None of this “maybe,” “might,” or “hopefully” stuff. After all, if you have wimpy, barely-getting-by goals, you don’t have to rely on Him to achieve them. We encourage you to choose goals that, when you’re at the finish line, you’ve made God look like God.
Each of us has different dreams we want to bring to fruition in this new year, but there’s one thing that’s universally true for us all: To achieve million-dollar dreams, we must develop million-dollar habits.
If you’re average, your life will be average, your business will be average, your salary will be average, your relationships will be average. Your dreams will be average. So, the first step in achieving the life you truly want is to work on you. Your life will only grow to the extent that you do. Are you willing to do what it takes to achieve your dreams?
According to Terri Savelle Foy, a Christian minister and “Cheerleader of Dreams,” there are five personal habits that form the foundation of a million-dollar life.
Become a Planner
We’ve all heard the adage, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” Well, there’s a reason that saying has stood the test of time … it’s true! We aren’t saying everyone should go out and buy a 2025 organizer and plan what you want to achieve each day. Although that approach works for a lot of people. Buy if your mind doesn’t work like that, perhaps a mind map or a vision board is more your style. Choose a planning process that works for you and commit to it. It feels good to get all this information out of your head and into some form that you find motivating.
Lead Yourself
If you can’t manage your own current life and habits, how can you manage the future path to your dream life? Imagine someone came to you wanting to learn how to be successful and asked to shadow you for a few days, what would they see? What habits, routines, or rituals would they see in you that could help them achieve their dreams? Five daily habits that Foy suggests developing are these: (1) prayer/time with God, (2) read something or listen to a podcast to learn something new every day, (3) listen to a faith message for motivation, (4) spend 5 – 10 minutes reviewing your dreams and goals to keep them forefront in your mind, and (5) exercise to develop self-discipline and improve your energy and health. And don’t forget to schedule these habits into your day so they actually get done. Want to save time? Look for ways to “stack” tasks, e.g., you can pray and go for a walk at the same time. Or you can listen to a motivational message while you get dressed in the morning.
Expose Yourself to Greatness
Where you are today is not where you must stay, but you can’t see increase on the outside until you see it on the inside. If you’re the wisest and most successful one in your group, you’re in the wrong group because you can’t expand yourself if you’re always teaching others. Instead, surround yourself with people that challenge and inspire you and make you want to improve. Try joining a group or a club of successful people that relates to your dream. Maybe you take a class (in person or online) or simply read a book by someone who has already achieved greatness in an area that inspires you to come up higher.
Encourage Yourself
You behave on the outside the way you speak to yourself on the inside. The Bible tells us that even King David had to encourage himself in the Lord in his dark moments. If you want to live an extraordinary life, you must believe you can succeed and become your own best cheerleader. A wonderful tool for encouraging yourself is a daily habit of positive declarations or affirmations. When you look at your dreams and goals, you may think there’s no way you’ll ever achieve them, but don’t speak it. Or you may think it’ll take forever to get there, but don’t ever say it. If you want to know where your life is headed, listen to the words coming out of your mouth. Stop all the “I could never …” statements, and instead say (out loud) things like, “I’m healthy and whole,” “I’m completely out of debt,” “I’m at my ideal bodyweight,” “I’m organized and efficient,” or “I manage a successful business doing exactly what I want to do.” Pastor Steven Furtik once said that after any statement you’re about to make, add this phrase at the end: “and that’s just the way I want it.” So, the next time you’re about to say something negative like, “I’ll never lose weight or get organized or have a successful business,” add “and that’s just the way I want it” at the end. If that isn’t just the way you want it, then don’t say it. Replace the negativity with positive, confident, hope-filled statements instead. Your life may not look like all these positive affirmations at first, but the more you speak them, the more you’ll believe them. And the more you believe them, the more they’ll come true.
Stretch Yourself with Goals
Become a lifelong goal-setter. You’ll feel good about yourself when you’re working on something that’s important to you. Write the goals down and keep them somewhere you’ll see them every day. Don’t stick them in a drawer and forget them … review them every day! Darren Hardy, the former editor of Success Magazine, once interviewed many of the most successful people in the world – people like Warren Buffet, Oprah, Jeff Bezos – and Hardy said that all the successful people he interviewed had two things in common: (1) they’re committed to continual learning, (2) they’re committed to continual goal setting. Keep a log of all your goals and achievements and take time to review them periodically. Seeing all the things God has done in your life will build momentum, inspiring you to set new goals and continually improve. Just be sure to make your goals clear, concise, measurable, and give them a deadline. Don’t list too many because like the adage says … whoever chases many rabbits won’t catch any of them! Keep it manageable at around 5 – 7 goals for the year.
